A guide for Patients

The commonest reason for seeking medical help is pain. Pain may be part of a disease process or a result of trauma or surgery.

Pain is an unpleasant experience universally and can be controlled with medical help.

The measurement of pain is difficult because of its subjective nature. You can rate your pain from 0 to 10 or you may describe it as mild, moderate or severe.

Unrelieved pain may interfere with your activities of daily living and may cause anxiety, sleep disturbance, depression etc.

 

Can my pain be managed?

There are many ways to relieve pain, seek medical help who can advise and give you options available for controlling pain.

 

Options Available

  • Pain relieving medication
  • Nerve Block Procedure
  • Radio-frequency current treatment of nerves

 

The Medication Used

  • Paracetamol
  • NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) eg. Ibuprofen, Diclofenac etc.
  • Others: Opoids for severe pain which can be prescribed by your doctor

Different pain relieving options are according to the severity of pain.
